Owls great Terry Curran claims a Thai takeover of Sheffield Wednesday would be good news for the entire city - and not just the club.

Curran would welcome a buyout of the Championship outfit with “open arms”, as long as the investors have good intentions.

Several rounds of talks have taken place between Owls and a group of Thai investors interested in a possible £30m takeover of the club. It is understood the Thai group have been in discussions with Wednesday for several months and attended their win over Blackpool on Boxing Day at Hillsborough.

Discussions remain on-going and Curran, who represented both Wednesday and Sheffield United during his playing days, feels the potential takeover would have a positive effect on Sheffield’s economy.

“I would love to see some investment in the club,” said Curran. “Milan Mandaric has invested what he can but doesn’t feel he can take them to the next level. I’m sure any potential investors will have done their homework and will know everything about the club.

“When Wednesday are winning things, the place is rocking with the fantastic support they’ve got. They are a club with great tradition and, with the right investors behind them, can do really well.

“If it is a genuine purchase like what we have seen with Manchester City and Chelsea, I would welcome it with open arms. It creates investment in the city if you have a successful football club. It creates that interest, gets people talking about Sheffield and wanting to come to the city.
