Sheffield Wednesday: Owls wary of Forest dangerman

Owls head coach Carlos Carvalhal has warned his side of the threat Nottingham Forest striker Nelson Oliveira will pose at the City Ground tomorrow.

Portugal international Oliveira, on loan from Benfica, leads the way in the goal-scoring charts for Forest, hitting nine goals, including the winner in Tuesday’s triumph over Preston North End.

Carvalhal is a big fan of his fellow countryman and told The Star: “Nelson is doing good. He was always a player who promised a lot.

“He played fantastically in the Under-21’s European Championship tournament a few years ago but he didn’t progress like everybody expected.

“His potential has always been there and he has played well this year.”

Carvalhal has been impressed with how well strikers Oliveira and Lucas Joao have adapted to the rigours of English football.

“If you can play in England, you can play in all the countries because it is especially tough for the strikers,” he said. “If you play well here, you will be ready for the national team.

“It has been good for both of them that they are playing at this level.”

Joao may make way for Wednesday’s top-scorer Fernando Forestieri when they travel to Forest.

Carvalhal said: “It’s good news for us that Fernando is back. He’s an important player in our team and he is a goal-scorer. We are, of course, more strong when we have all the players.”

On Joao’s development, Carvalhal said: “He is a boy. His colleagues have experience and he is learning.

“Lucas had a period of two months which was not so good and he came down. He is a boy and flyed a little at that moment. But in the last three weeks he has comeback more strong.”
