Aldridge had announced in April last year that this would be his final season at Hillsborough and following the close of the campaign in the wake of Saturday's Play-Off Final defeat to Hull City, he has stepped down.

Speaking when the initial announcement was made, Aldridge said: "Mr Chansiri is extremely ambitious and I am sure that Sheffield Wednesday will flourish under his leadership, it is the right for the club that he can build his management team for the long term and I am very confident that the both the club and our supporters have a very exciting future to look forward to."

A short statement on the club's website today read: "The club would like to thank Paul for his services and wish him well for the future. Finance director John Redgate will now supplement the SWFC board following Paul’s departure."

Aldridge, who had previously worked at West Ham, Leicester City and Manchester City, first joined Wednesday in January 2011 as chief executive, brought on board by Milan Mandaric when the former Owls owner first took charge of the club.

It was expected that Aldridge would move on once Dejphon Chansiri took ownership in January last year and that was revealed three months later.
