Sheffield Wednesday: Studs up '¦Â what Adam Reach made of the red card in the Owls' win over Ipswich Town

The Sheffield Wednesday attacking midfielder was involved in the second-half incident when Ipswich Town centre-half Aristote Nsiala was given his marching orders for a tackle on Owls substitute Fernando Forestieri.

Reach's pass during the Owls' 2-1 win at Hillsborough led to the sliding challenge that saw Nsiala take possession cleanly but then keep his boot in the air in his follow-through.

"It looked like he won the ball, but it was maybe the force he went in with, with his studs showing," Reach said.

"If anything, I was a bit too close to see it. I brought it down on my chest and tried to play a ball around the corner to Nando and left it a little bit short. I think that enticed both players to go in. 

"Thankfully, Nando was okay, and them being down to 10 men helped us. Sometimes, it is difficult to play against 10 men as it means the opposiition normally go a little bit more direct. All in all, we coped with the long ball quite well.

"At the end of the day, the referee makes the decision. Sometimes, they go against you. Today it went for us. We take it and, overall, it goes down as another three points."

Lucas Joao, who hadn't played since opening day, celebrated his new contract and return from a groin injury by scoring both goals as Wednesday put their early-season troubles behind them with a second victory in four days.

"Lucas came back in and struggled with a little bit of fitness," Reach said. "It has taken him a while to get going. But he has worked hard in the gym and is someone who typifies the hard work that the players put in.

"We are all delighted for him. It is important for all our attacking players to get on the scoresheet. Lucas has signed a new deal and is high on confidence. It was good to have him back."

Wednesday, playing their third match in six days, didn't match the standards of the 2-1 midweek triumph over Millwall, and Reach admitted the busy schedule had been a factor.

"It is about getting wins and points on the board," he said. "With three games in a week, energy levels can dip a little bit.

"Our levels were not what they were on Wednesday against Millwall when we put in a really good shift. But again, we worked hard. Ipswich are a side who play direct football and long balls and quite often you get sucked into that and kind of do that yourselves. 

"We sort of did that but, at the end of the day, we got the three points. Sometimes when you are not playing brilliant football, it is about grinding it out and working as a team.

"I thought we did that and we are very happy in the dressing room."
