The 28-year-old, who became only the second Englishman to secure the famous green jacket at Augusta on Sunday, said he wanted a cup of tea and a rest as he returned to his home near Worksop yesterday.

Danny posed for photos with his wife Nicole and newborn son Zachariah. The golfer nearly missed the Masters because his son was due on April 10, the day of the final, but - luckily for Danny - Zachariah was born two weeks early.

Danny was pleased to be back. He said: “It’s better than being away. It has been a long journey back but it is nice to be home.”

Danny, who practised his swing on the golf courses of South Yorkshire, now has four weeks off before his next tournament. Of his plans until then, he said: “Put my feet up and just drink tea and relax and have some family time and think about what we’ve done.”

His win gives him a lifetime invitation to the Masters, and he will host the Champion’s Dinner next year, with a menu of his choice.

He said: “We’ve got a few months to think about that but there will be a little bit of Yorkshire in there.”

Danny will get his own star on Sheffield’s Walk of Fame after his win.
