The vile video, which was captured on a mobile phone by a concerned member of the public, appears to show a woman repeatedly abusing a dog as she walked it along a street in Penistone.

After the video was posted on Facebook, thousands shared it in the hope of catching the woman.

Hundreds of people posted horrified comments about the video too.

An RSPCA spokesperson said: “We are shocked and appalled by this footage and are keen for anyone with information to contact us by calling our appeal line on 0300 123 8018.

“We were contacted about this incident on February 5 and an inspector conducted initial enquiries immediately to track down the woman captured in the video.

“Investigations are ongoing at this time and, therefore, we can’t give any further information.”
