Marian Simpson has been given a boost ahead of opening her garden to the public once again this weekend - after hers was chosen as one of the UK’s top ‘inspirational small gardens’.
Marian’s event takes place on Sunday at her home on Dover Road, Hunters Bar, under the National Garden Scheme’s annual Yellow Book programme.
Her garden was included in a list compiled by the Daily Mail newspaper.
“It came as a bit of a surprise, especially as the other four were all in the south of England,” said Marian, who has lived on Dover Road for more than 20 years.
“But there is a point in focussing on smaller gardens like mine. It’s much easier to do the kind of intense planting I do in a town-garden.”
The garden has several different areas, including alpines, cottage-style borders and exotic plants.
The opening runs from 11am to 4.30pm. Cream teas will also be served.
Proceeds from plant sales will go to Cruse Bereavement Care, which Marian - a trained counsellor - volunteers for.
