South Yorkshire firefighters were called out to tackle numerous fires across the area last night.

Arsonists set fire to a portable toilet at Victoria Quays in Sheffield at 9.50pm on Thursday evening.

A crew from Central Fire Station spent about 15 minutes tackling the blaze.

Yobs struck again at 12.30pm when they set fire to a wheelie bin outside a home in Algar Drive, Arbourthorne, at 12.30am this morning.

A crew from Mansfield Road Fire Station spent 15 minutes putting the blaze out.

Over in Doncaster a hedgerow accidentally caught fire in Geeseness Lane, Fishlake at 3.30am.

Thorne firefighters attended and used a single hose reel to extinguish the blaze.

A fire brigade spokeswoman said the hedge had caught fire from embers that had drifted over from a car that had been set alight by arsonists earlier in the night.
