PUPILS from a South Yorkshire primary enjoyed the spririt of the summer when they welcomed an Olympic torch to their school.
The youngsters from St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Primary School, Rawmarsh, Rotherham, welcomed the town’s own rival to the London 2012 flame which is currently travelling around the borough.
The torch, created by students at Thrybergh Secondary, is visiting every school in the authority over a three-month period.
Schools have been organising Olympic-themed lessons.
The project was the idea of Thrybergh’s head of art Jo Wood, and was supported by Fiona Radford, of Rotherham’s School Effectiveness Service.
The torch’s final port of call will be Magna on Monday, June 18, to mark the opening of Rotherham’s Children’s Festival.
