Students bring Bard to stage

DRAMA students are sharpening their swords ahead of a new Shakespeare adaptation.

The University of Sheffield’s drama society is rehearsing The Rise and Fall of the House of York, which combines two of the Bard’s plays - Richard III and Henry VI.

The group has joined forces with the Royal Shakespeare Company as part of its Open Stages project, to bridge the gap between amateur and professional theatre.

The production will be performed at the university’s drama studio in Glossop Road from November 7 to 10.

Ian Gledhill, director, said: “Richard III is one of Shakespeare’s most popular history plays but fewer Shakespeare fans have had the chance to see the action that precedes it in Henry VI part three. I have brought them together to create an exciting new version.”
