The Castle Park club romped to a fourth successive away victory at The Athletic Ground on Saturday when running in eight tries in a 48-14 win over London Scottish.

“It was another terrific performance and for the third successive away game we played some outstanding stuff,” said director of rugby Clive Griffiths.

“We got off to a good start and we had an opportunity early on but we found ourselves 7-0 down and we were starting to push passes and do other things wrong and you could see them starting to grow in confidence and I started to wonder if it was going to be one of those days.

“But then I think this team can come back from 20-0 down such is the spirit and heart within the squad and we showed those qualities in bucket-loads and we hit them with three excellent tries in fifteen minutes to come in leading 15-7.

“We score another five tries in the second half – some from off-the-cuff moves and in between we had tries from well rehearsed moves and some good individual stuff, such as picking and going near the line which capitalised on the fact that some of their defenders were standing high.”

Knights victory meant they retained third spot on points difference from Ealing, who posted a five-point win against Rotherham Titans at Clifton Lane.

There was good news for both clubs yesterday as fifth-placed Cornish Pirates, who started the weekend just one point adrift of them, lost at home to Jersey.

Knights’ outside hopes of repeating last season’s second-placed finish received a boost with Yorkshire Carnegie going down at home to leaders London Irish yesterday.
