Tips to turn leftovers into garden fertiliser on offer at Sheffield festival

Families in Sheffield are being urged to turn leftover food into fuel for their vegetable patches to reduce waste.

Visitors to the Sheffield Food Festival this weekend will be given advice by Veolia and Sheffield Council on how to compost leftovers, or turn them into other meals.

Debbie Doohan, general manager from Veolia, said: “It’s shocking to think only half of the food we throw away is actually waste, the rest is perfectly good food that could still be eaten.”

Prizes and competitions will be on offer at the stall.
