AN EXCLUSIVE ale is hailing 125 years of Barnsley Football Club.

The club is inviting fans to toast its anniversary season this year with a glass of the commemorative 1887 Red bottled ale.

Award-winning Wombwell brewer Acorn created the beer with help from Tykes’ defender Rob Edwards.

Reds’ director Don Rowing said: “In the club’s 125th anniversary season we saw it only fitting to produce a product synonymous with Barnsley - traditional real ale.

“This is a great way of celebrating the club’s historic landmark and we hope that Reds’ supporters get behind it.”

Barnsley FC was formed as Barnsley St Peters in 1887 by the Reverend Tiverton Preedy.

It was originally in the Sheffield & District League, but joined the Midland League in 1895 and then moved into the Football League in 1898.
