Ella Armstrong, 22, of Mowson Lane, Worral and two-year-old Miniature Poodle Daphne, fought off competition from a host of other dogs to scoop the Young Kennel Club’s 17-24 Intermediate Obedience title.

Daphne was one of nearly 22,000 dogs at Birmingham’s NEC last week for the prestigious show.

And after seeing her beloved pet pooch put her best paw forward at this year’s Crufts, Ella, who studies criminology at Sheffield Hallam, was left beaming with pride at hers and Daphne’s performance.

“I can’t believe we have won, you literally can’t top this feeling,” she said.

“Crufts is so fantastic and there is not anything which quite compares to it so it is an amazing feeling to come out on top and have all our hard-work pay off.

“This was my seventh Crufts and it is one of the highlights of my year so you can count on seeing me back here next year.”

There was more South Yorkshire success as Christine Ogle, 71, of Stainton Lane, Rotherham and five-year-old Large Münsterländer Freya, won the coveted Best of Breed award.

She said: “We love Crufts; we have been coming forty years so to win the competition really means a great deal to Freya and I.”
