FORMER Meadowhead School headteacher Ken Cook has been given one of the St John Ambulance’s highest honours.

A leading influence among the charity’s volunteers in Derbyshire until he retired last December, he has been invested as a Commander of the Order of St John at a ceremony in London.

The honour can be traced back 900 years and each recipient is approved by the Queen.

Ken, who lives in Dronfield, is now concentrating on other voluntary roles including Deputy Lord Lieutenant, University of Derby governor and chair of Derby Family Nurse Partnership, as well as working towards a doctorate in leadership and management.
