Sheffield bridge back open after eight months of work

A Victorian bridge in Sheffield has reopened after eight months of strengthening and upgrade works.

The Oughtibridge bridge over the River Don has had more than 18 tonnes of steel reinforcement since April, with partial closures in place during that time.

It fully opened yesterday after a final closure over the weekend.

Coun Jayne Dunn, Sheffield Council cabinet member for Streetscene, said: “I’m delighted this historic bridge is now reopened and would like to thank the public and road users for their patience during works on the bridge.

“The bridge provides a vital link for residents and visitors.

“It’s great to know the work carried out has preserved an important part of Sheffield’s heritage for many years to come.”
