THE business community in Attercliffe is keeping up the pressure on the council for restrictions on lorries through the centre.
Attercliffe Business Connection spokesman David Slater said: “The vast majority of businesses based on Attercliffe Road and the High Street wants to see traffic-calming measures.”
Ninety per cent of lorries used Attercliffe as a rat-run and not for deliveries, he said. “A two to three minute detour for deliveries to heavy engineering sites would make no difference to these businesses who choose to stand in the way of progress and prosperity for the district.”
After the latest response from the council, Mr Slater said restrictions, not a ban, was being sought and it would have “a positive influence on changing the landscape in Attercliffe centre” and support the regeneration of the Lower Don Valley. He added: “You really should take notice of the experts and what they are telling you.”
