Trio arrested after crash during police chase in Sheffield

Two men and a teenager involved in a crash during a police chase in Sheffield this morning have been arrested.

The trio - two men aged 21 and a 17-year-old boy - were being followed by police officers on suspicion of being in a stolen car when it crashed.

The black Mercedes C Class was involved in a collision in Brightside Lane, close to the junction with Stevenson Road, Attercliffe.

Firefighters said the car ended up on its roof.

The three occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospital for treatment and have been arrested on suspicion of offences including burglary, affray and dangerous driving.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Police have arrested three people following a collision in the Brightside Lane area of Sheffield this morning.

“Officers from the roads policing unit were in pursuit of a suspected stolen vehicle, a black Mercedes C class, in Sheffield city centre.

“A short time later at around 3am, the Mercedes was involved in a collision in Brightside Lane near to the junction with Stevenson Road. The police car was not involved in the collision.

“The three occupants of the car were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries, which are not thought to be serious.

“Two 21-year-old men and a 17-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of burglary, affray, dangerous driving and other offences. They remain in police custody.

“Police would like to hear from anyone with information about the movements of the black Mercedes prior to the collision, or anyone who witnessed the collision this morning.”
