Union cash boost vital for community learning base

A South Yorkshire learning centre is being relaunched with new equipment and software after a £10,000 cash injection from a trade union.

Dearne Electronic Community Village, based at Thurnscoe Library, relies on donations and provides free IT courses and help with maths, English and looking for work.

The contribution from the GMB will be celebrated on Monday at a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by GMB regional secretary Tim Roache and Wentworth and Dearne MP John Healey.

Mr Healey praised the organisation and said: “Dearne Electronic Community Village has had very little money but tutors and volunteers have worked tirelessly for 12 years to provide people in Thurnscoe with a place they can go to learn new skills.”
