A PLEA has been made urging Sheffield Council to use unspent cash to save some threatened early years services.
The council is cutting £3.5 million from spending on children’s centres over the coming year.
But latest council figures show £45m remains unspent from the 2012-13 capital budget – close to the £50m of cuts in the 2013-14 council budget.
While £29m is due to delays in council projects, £16m is available to the council to spend, the Green Party says.
Coun Jillian Creasy, Green Party group leader and Central ward councillor, said: “We saw more than 10,000 people sign a petition to save early years services in the most deprived parts of the city and we think the council could respond effectively by using unspent money.”
