Two city businesses have combined the tricks of their trade to come up with a tasty Hallowe’en treat…

Pumpkin Oil entrepreneur Gary Hutton issued a Twitter plea for someone to help produce a pumpkin cupcake – and Fancie founder Amanda Perry was happy to oblige.

“We’d already used the pumpkin oil and found it to be gorgeous – really nutty and delicious – so we were delighted to come up with a recipe we could use it in,” she said.

The two got together last week to experiment with textures and flavours. The biggest problem they encountered was in finding the right ingredients: “The recipe we used had a typo and our driver spent half an hour trying to track down some soy milch!”

Finally the mixture was perfected and the all-new pumpkin cupcakes were baked, iced and ready for taste testing.

“They’re delicious,” said Gary, thrilled with the success of his Hallowe’en treat.

Amanda agreed: “They’re really moist and not overly sweet – similar to a carrot cake. Even better, we’ve found a recipe that is vegan but will also appeal to the rest of our customers.”

She added: “Gary has been great, I’m really glad we’ve had the chance to work with him and provide something our customers have been asking for for ages.”

The vegan pumpkin cupcakes, with a distinctive nutty taste and light lemon frosting, are now available from
Fancie outlets, priced £2.20.

l Fancie enjoyed more success this week as runner-up in the independent retailer category of the OFM awards.
