Warnock, a lifelong Sheffield United supporter and former Blades boss, is likely to get plenty of stick from the home faithful when he brings his relegation-threatened Millers side to S6.

But Carvalhal, who will be without top-scorer Fernando Forestieri due to suspension, is only focusing on helping Wednesday return to winning ways.

“It is not about the coaches; it is about the teams,” he stated. “There are 11 players on each team and one referee. That’s the most important thing. We are concentrating on our strategy.”

Carvalhal is no stranger to derbies, having worked in Portugal, Turkey and Greece during his nomadic coaching career. The Portuguese head coach is banking on the Owls, who are currently sixth in the Championship, relishing the occasion.

“It will be another local derby which is all the time interesting, the emotions run more high in these kind of games,” he said. “It will be two teams in different circumstances, one team is fighting to not be relegated and another team is in a good position in this moment.

“In the derby, it is a different environment. It is 90 minutes where we are sure we must fight and run a lot and play good football to beat Rotherham.

“Rotherham are playing better now with a new coach, but at the same time, we are playing at home and we are sure everybody can do their best to feel the power of Hillsborough.”
