As part of Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity's Time for Tea initiative footballers from Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley and Rotherham United clashed at Marco's New York Italian Restaurant in Sheffield to see if their creativity stretched from the football field to the kitchen.

Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity needs to raise over £2 million this year to enable the funding of committed and new projects that will keep patients at the forefront of cancer treatment.

Now into its third year, Time for Tea is an initiative which encourages people to host or attend a tea party to raise vital funds for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity across the month of May.

Taking part in the Time for Tea Cake Off were Wednesday's Glenn Loovens and Fernando Forestieri; Sheffield United's Harrison McGahey and Che Adams; Nick Townsend and Callum Evans from Barnsley and Rotherham United pair Luciano Becchio and Aimen Belaid.

The idea behind the challenge is that fans can text and vote for their duo's cake and in turn make a donation to the charity. Whichever team raises the most is the winner.

Sheffield Wednesday captain Glenn Loovens was delighted to take part in the event.

"It was more competitive than I thought it would be," he said. "I enjoyed it, it was something different and it's for a great cause. Hopefully fans can go online and vote for their favourites and raise as much as we can for a great charity."

The young forward also said he hoped donations would come in for the charity.

“We are absolutely delighted that representatives from all four football clubs took part in this exciting cake-off event to raise funds for our Time for Tea initiative,” Charity Fundraising Manager, Sarah Cross said.

“We hope that the timed cake-off event will create some friendly rivalry between the players as they compete to present the best decorated cake to represent their own clubs.”

“It’s also a chance for fans of each club to get involved and ensure their club’s cake entry wins the competition by making a donation through JustGiving in the week following the event.”
