Video: "He was like Eddie the Eagle," says Blackburn boss Paul Lambert on Alex Lopez red card incident

Blackburn Rovers boss Paul Lambert couldn't hide his frustration at the red card which he claimed changed the course of the game against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

And the Scot said the man at the centre of the decision, Alex Lopez, was like ski-jumper Eddie the Eagle in the challenge that saw Rovers goalscorer Craig Conway sent off.

Conway had put Rovers in front within second of the restart, but soon after Adam Henley's own goal had seen Wednesday draw level, Rovers were down to ten men when the former Cardiff forward went in with a rash tackle on Lopez.

Referee David Webb produced the red card, much to Lambert's annoyance and after watching the new biopic on famous Winter Olympics underdog Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards, the Rovers boss drew comparisons with Lopez's reaction.

"I thought there were big, big moments in the game that never went in our favour," said Lambert.

"For the sending-off, I think Craig's gone in strongly, no two ways about it, but I thought at the time he's gone through his legs. I've seen it on the tape and that's what happened.

"I've just watched the 'Eddie the Eagle' movie and I thought it was one of his ski jumps when (Lopez) was banging that floor. He went on the pitch quicker than Usain Bolt after that."

Ross Wallace went on to score the winner for Wednesday and seal their fourth consecutive win.
