VIDEO: Multiple police officers injured during arrest on Sheffield estate

Multiple police cars, police riot vans, crime scene investigation units and five ambulances were called to a Sheffield estate yesterday evening.

The incident saw parts of Gleadless Valley shut by officers.

The junction of Blackstock Road and Gleadless Road was closed, with multiple police cars at the scene.

An ambulance left the scene with a police escort, with vehicles blaring their sirens, as The Star arrived.

One eyewitness told The Star: "There are all sorts of rumours flying around. I heard it is the largest ever police response in South Yorkshire, with 27 police cars and five ambulances."

Details of the incident are yet to be confirmed, but rumours circulating on social media - along with the heavy police presence - suggest it is a serious incident.

South Yorkshire Police has been contacted for comment but have not yet provided a response to The Star.

UPDATE: South Yorkshire Police has issued this statement:

"A man has been arrested following a domestic incident in Gleadless, Sheffield, this evening (Wednesday 13 April).

"Police were called to Plowright Close at around 7.50pm and made attempts to arrest a man, who is in his 30s.

"During the course of the arrest, a number of police officers were injured. They are receiving treatment for their injuries, which are not life-threatening.

"The man remains in police custody.

"There was a significant police presence in the area this evening as officers dealt with the incident and we’d like to thanks residents for their patience."
