A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “At 11.45am this morning (February 16) police were notified that a local authority building on Union Street in central Sheffield was in the process of being evacuated after a report that a bomb had been placed in the building.”

Howden House is open to the public for inquiries about council matters such as housing, schools and parking badges, while local authority staff work on the upper levels.
