The Sheffield United centre-forward recently spent a week at St George’s Park, the FA’s national football centre, after being plagued by ankle issues but resumed training yesterday.

“Leon is back with and us and doing the same stuff as the rest of the lads now,” Wilder said. “It’s great to see because we want everybody fit and available. It’s good to see them all raring to go and trying to get in the team.”

Although Clarke is unlikely to be considered for selection against Swindon Town tomorrow evening, he could receive the all-clear ahead of Charlton Athletic’s visit to Bramall Lane this weekend. The 32-year-old has made only 19 appearances so far this season but, after averaging a goal every 2.05 games for Bury last term, is still regarded as a valuable asset by Wilder and his coaching staff.

“We’ve had a good record, by and large, with injuries so far,” Wilder said. “Credit to the players themselves for working so hard to stay or get fit.”
