VIDEO: We deserved nothing against Sheffield United, says Oldham Athletic boss John Sheridan

Oldham Athletic manager John Sheridan rued defensive errors that led to the goals which secured Sheffield United's victory over the Latics at Bramall Lane.

John Brayford, Ryan Flynn and Billy Sharp were all on target for the Blades, but Sheridan pinpointed what he felt were mistakes in the build-up to each of them, though the Sheffield Wednesday legend did accept that his side were beaten by the better team.

"We didn’t start the game well at all," admitted Sheridan. "We looked really flat so I matched it up to 3-5-2 and I thought we would deal with it. Every goal is a bad goal but all their goals could have been prevented. First goal, two of our players have miskicked it, third goal two of our players have miskicked it and the second goal is a throw-in in the middle of their half and we’ve given the ball away cheaply and they’ve countered us and we’ve lost the game 3-0."

Sheridan said the introduction from the bench of on-loan Doncaster Rovers forward Curtis Main increased the visitors' attacking threat, but the closest they came was a long range effort from Main which rattled the crossbar.

"They moved the ball well and we never got going" he added. "We had a spell just before the third goal where their goalkeeper has made a great save and then we had Curtis Main’s shot. We just needed a goal quickly and I thought for 15 minutes we had a go. Curtis came on and changed the game but we didn’t deserve anything from it. It’s a bad day at the office, I know that and I have to accept that.”
