Sheffield United's point at Oldham this afternoon was one gained rather than two dropped, despite the two side's respective positions in the table.

That's the view of James Shield, The Star's Blades writer, after Jay O'Shea cancelled out Tope Obadeyi's opener on the stroke of half-time.

On a shocking pitch at Boundary Park, United struggled to play their normal passing game and saw their lead over second-placed Bolton cut to four points.

They still sit ten points clear of third-placed Fleetwood, however, after their draw with Bury and James said: "At first glance, and looking at the league table, a lot of fans and players will look at this as two points lost.

"But as Chris Wilder said afterwards, taking conditions into account, I think it's one gained.

"As Geoffrey Boycott would say at the cricket, it was a very sticky wicket and not at all conducive to playing good football.

"It was another game where United showcased the other side to their game. They have played scintilating football at times this season but here, they had to roll up their sleeves and fight."
