Sheffield is set to be gripped by freezing temperatures and further snowfall over the coming week.
The Met Office has issued a yellow ‘beware’ weather warning for snow across South Yorkshire on Wednesday and Thursday, with the possibility of up to 5cm in some areas.
The warning states: “Strong and gusty winds will likely accompany snow showers, and lead to significantly reduced visibility at times, difficult driving conditions and temporary blizzards over high ground.
“The public should be aware of the potential for disruption to travel.”
Forecasters say a band of rain will push in from the west on Wednesday morning, clearing by the afternoon. Temperatures will then become much colder, the wind will become stronger and there will be scattered snow showers overnight.
On Thursday there could be further snow showers throughout the day, when temperatures will struggle to rise above four degrees.
At the end of the week temperatures are expected to plunge further, with average daytime temperatures between two and four degrees and overnight temperatures getting as low as minus four degrees.
