WIN Alan Carr tickets: Spexy Beast laughing thanks to Toby Foster - VIDEO

SPEXY Beast Alan Carr is looking forward to two chatty nights at next month’s Grin Up North comedy festival in Sheffield – where it all began for him almost 10 years ago, writes Graham Walker.

The 35-year-old star of TV’s Chatty Man has revealed festival organiser Toby Foster gave him one of his first big breaks in the city.

In an exclusive chat with The Star, Carr told us: “Toby Foster gave me my very first headline slot here almost a decade ago.

“I performed everywhere in Sheffield back then. I especially loved the Lescar. I have such fond memories of this city.

“But if somebody had told me I was going to be on stage at Sheffield Arena... I mean, I saw Tina Turner there! Obviously, I won’t be going ‘Rolling, Rolling’. Well, I might do if I don’t get a laugh.

“It’s ridiculous. I know you lose a lot of your intimacy, but it’s good to get that buzz. I might not be as popular in a few years’ time and be able to fill arenas, so I’ve got to do it now.”

He added: “I’ve thought about stringing a line of washing across the stage, putting curlers in my hair and having a good ol’ chinwag.”

Stand-up comedian, best-selling author and chat show supremo, Carr became a huge star and a family favourite on the back of his TV hits including Friday and Sunday Night Project, co-hosted with Justin Lee Collins, and current chat show, Chatty Man.

But Spexy Beast comes with a warning of swearing and humour, with access only for those aged 15 and over.
