Working men’s clubs across South Yorkshire have made a Sheffield cancer charity’s 20th anniversary one to remember by raising more than £15,000 for the cause.
Throughout 2014 big-hearted club members held a variety of special fundraising events as part of Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity’s ‘For One Night Only’ initiative, which celebrated the charity’s milestone anniversary.
To thank participating social clubs and community groups for their efforts, representatives were invited to a cheque presentation at Bramall Lane ahead of Sheffield United’s match against Milton Keynes Dons.
Charity patron and operations director at Sheffield United FC Dave McCarthy, said: “To raise over £15,000 is a superb effort across club land and it was great to be able to welcome some of the working men’s clubs who have raised money to Bramall Lane.”
Charity community fundraiser, Lucy King, added: “We are incredibly grateful to the working men’s clubs of South Yorkshire for taking part in the For One Night Only initiative and raising such an impressive amount.
“The money raised will make a huge difference for, not only those receiving cancer treatment at the hospital currently, but those who may find themselves here in the future.”
Throughout 2015 the charity will fund various projects to enable the continued improvement of Weston Park Hospital, including the expansion of research studies, improving the way cancer treatments are delivered and supporting the ongoing care provisions of patients and their families affected by cancer.
