A caring young boy who united Sheffield’s footballing divide with a fundraising walk has been nominated for a Star Superkids award.

Jake Brady, aged 11, hit the headlines last year when he decided to help children who had been affected by cancer.

The Owls fan even designed a special shirt - half blue and white for Sheffield Wednesday, half red and white for Sheffield United - to wear as he completed the charity walk between the two club stadiums.

Jake’s proud mum Alison has now nominated him for a Star Superkids award to recognise him for going the extra mile.

She said: “Jake was saddened by reading about children we know, and some we didn’t, who were suffering from cancer.

“He initially aimed to raise around £500 but due to him appearing in The Star the amount soon went up!

“Jake went around neighbours, family and friends begging for sponsorship and even took to Twitter and Facebook asking for help.

“In the end Jake raised just over £1,000 which is a lot of money for a 10-year-old on their own.”

The money Jake raised boosted the Parents’ Association for Children with Tumours and Leukaemia at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, which helps families affected by cancer.

Alison, of Wadsworth Drive, Intake, added: “Jake is now thinking what he can do this summer to raise more money for PACT, and as his parents we don’t doubt he will succeed in raising the same amount if not more.”

Time is running out to nominate your little heroes for the Star Superkids awards - all entries must be in by this Saturday, April 26.
