Argos partners for Teenage Cancer

From: Simon Davies

Chief Executive of Teenage Cancer Trust

I am writing to let you and your readers know about a special partnership Teenage Cancer Trust has developed with Argos over the last six months and also ask for your readers’ kind support to a nationwide fundraising initiative taking place in-store later this month.

Last year the employees of Home Retail Group – the parent company of Argos and Homebase – kindly selected Teenage Cancer Trust as their charity partner for two years. As Teenage Cancer Trust receives no government funding this partnership is a wonderful opportunity for us and I am pleased to say that in just six months Home Retail Group colleagues across the UK and Republic of Ireland have already helped raise a staggering £600,000, far more than their previous charity partners at this early stage of the relationship. Together this partnership aims to raise funds to build specialist Teenage Cancer Trust units in NHS hospitals across the UK for young people living with cancer.

This month we have been given an incredible chance to bucket collect in all Argos stores on January 22 and 23. This particular weekend sees the launch of the latest Argos catalogue and we urgently need volunteers who are able to give up a couple of hours of their time to help us make the most of this huge opportunity by collecting for Teenage Cancer Trust in their local Argos store.

At the last Argos catalogue launch in July 2010, we recruited over 600 volunteers. The continued support of Argos staff and customers will have a massive impact on the lives of young people fighting cancer. If you can spare a few hours on 22 or 23 January and would like to get involved by bucket collecting at your nearest Argos store then please contact or call 020 7612 0370.
