Depressed by casino verdict

I found it deeply depressing to learn that city planners have approved the conversion of the NUM building in Barkers Pool into a casino.

Why have such a parasitic institution in such a prominent site?

In 2006, some of us fought successfully against a ‘super-casino’ in Sheffield during New Labour’s foolish flirtation with gambling.

But now we seem to face a similar expansion of gambling through the opening of a succession of casinos.

The victims will be those with gambling addiction whose families are ruined by these developments.

We must attract industries to our city which actually benefit people.
