Reading that the Ofsted inspectors appraising the performance of Sheffield school governing bodies deem ‘satisfactory’ to be unsatisfactory, reminded me of the putative Goldwynism:
‘How’s business, Sam?’
‘Stupendous - but it’s startin’ to improve’.
Apocryphal of course, since authentic examples of Sam’s mangling of logic and language invariably encapsulated a grain of wisdom - something one will seek in vain in the Ofsted report’s irredeemable and utterly inexcusable gobbledegook.
