A FROSTY pitch did nothing to put off Sheffield Hallam women’s first team as they beat Springfields 5-0 away from home.
A quick start was rewarded with a penalty corner, where Nicola Cox put the ball into the back of the net from a reverse stick deflection. The pressure continued and from another penalty corner, Tori Wensley pushed the ball home to make the score 2-0.
Hallam keeper Tiffany Berry kept Springfields at bay with some superb saves before Caroline Barclay confidently made it 3-0 and further goals from Vicci Hammond and Alex Buskwood made it a scoreline that was in no ways flattering.
Hallam’s win moved them into second place in the North League Premier Division and if the league ended right now they would be promoted to the National League. The top team, Bowdon seconds, cannot gain promotion as second teams are not allowed in the National League
The Sheffield Hallam second team were also victorious on a cold day at Leeds Adel Carnegie.
Like the first team Sheffield seconds began well and were soon in the lead with Laura Cooper scoring the first goal off a short corner. And just before half time, Vikki Lawrence put Sheffield 2-0 ahead to complete the scoring.
Both the third and the fourth team’s games were called off.
Action starts at Abbeydale on Saturday at 10.15am and Sunday at 10am.
