It was another positive weekend for Barnsley’s Wilson Racing Moto3 team in the Hel Performance British Motostar standard class championship.
Not only has Scott Ogden now got 72 points, which puts him level with the rider in third, he got the standard class lap record in race two.
The team have also secured some sponsorship from Dijon Home and Flooring.
The fourth round took place at the Scottish circuit of Knockhill. The 1.3 mile track had been resurfaced and was bathed in glorious sunshine throughout the weekend.
There were the usual two free practice sessions on Friday. The fastest times were set in the second session after the riders had provided feedback as to the feel of the new surface. Charlie Atkins clocked the fifth fastest time a 55.243 just ahead of team mate Scott Ogden. Jack Hart was racing at his local track and was inside the top ten. Jake Clark was suffering from illness so did well to be inside the top fifteen. 13-year-old Osian Jones, the team’s newest member finished 20th as he got to grips with both motorcycle and track.
In qualifying it was Scott Ogden that finished as leading Wilson Racing rider. His 54.629 put him sixth fastest in the standard class. Charlie Atkins was just two tenths further back in seventh. Jack Hart maintained his top ten position whilst Jake Clark rose from his sick bed to qualify 12th. Osian Jones lined up 21st and gained more valuable experience.
Charlie Atkins made a great start as he moved up to fourth position in the opening lap. Scott Ogden was in sixth but lost the front a couple of times during the race and lost positions as the race went on. Jack Hart started and finished in tenth and set his fastest lap time of the weekend so far. Jake Clark was riding through his illness and despite not having his normal energy levels came home 14th. Osian Jones finished his first ever Moto3 race in 18th position. A solid start for the young Welsh rider.
Atkins, Ogden and Hart were all in the top ten in the early part of the race. Atkins was 5th, Ogden 6th and Hart 10th. Jake Clark was 13th but his race ended on lap seven. As the race moved on Ogden was able to get onto the back of the leading group of four riders whilst Atkins and Hart were holding their own in the second group. Scott Ogden missed out on a podium by two tenths of a second to finish fourth but his lap time of 53.915 was a new lap record. Atkins crossed the line in 8th and Jack Hart was 9th. Osian Jones came home in 17th place in his first weekend of Moto3 racing.
Team owner Gary Wilson said,” Well done to all the lads. Scott for finishing so close to the podium and for getting the lap record. Charlie for his fifth and seventh places, Jack Hart had two top tens, Jake Clark did well to race at all and I was really please with Osian Jones who brought the bike home in both races and improved all weekend. Also thanks to Derek Betts at Dijon Home and Flooring who has become another sponsor of the team.”
