Sheffield Sharks narrowly missed out on an impressive road victory on Friday night as they went down at title-chasing Worcester Wolves.
Sharks were playing catch up for most of the second half after a 7-0 run by the Wolves just before the interval gave the home team a 39-33 lead.
However, Sheffield finally went in front as they overturned a 69-63 deficit to lead 70-69 on a BJ Holmes two.
Holmes was subsequently called for an unsportsmanlike foul and it sparked an 8-0 burst by the Wolves. Holmes responded with a three to cut the gap to 77-73 and two free throws by Nick Lewis made it 77-75 with 30 seconds to play.
Worcester’s Dejan Radojevic split a pair of free throws to make it 78-75 with sevens seconds remaining.
Sharks Mike Cook had a chance to tie the game but his shot missed to leave Sheffield just short.
On Sunday Sharks travel to Cheshire Phoenix in the league while their BBL Trophy quarter-final with London Lions has been set for Friday, February 13 at the Copper Box in London.
