Sheffield brawler Jez Wilson undergoes a six-round tune-up tonight in preparation for his English title match-up with Dronfield’s Lewis Taylor.

The Crosspool fireman takes on Bath-born journeyman Dan Blackwell at Barnsley Metrodome in his first fight in 17-months.

Wilson suffered defeat and a double fracture to the jaw in his last outing against John Ryder, with his record slipping to 11 wins – including seven KOs – two defeats and one draw.

Wilson is nothing if not tough and game – something he proved in his Central Area middleweight title win over Liam Cameron in 2012.

And he is determined to be mentally and physically ready for Taylor, who has shown much improvement in his journey to winning the English belt in July.

If Wilson comes through tonight’s test, he faces Taylor at Rotherham’s Magna Centre on November 21.

Trainer Glyn Rhodes said: “Dan doesn’t win many (6-47-0) but he is a very tough journeyman. I just hope Jez can shake off the ring rust before getting in with Lewis.”

Barnsley’s Ben Wager headlines the Carl Greaves promoted bill in a Central Area light welterweight title fight against Kofi Yates.

Sheffield fighters Ryan Hardy and Joss Paul plus Barnsley’s Lee Gibbons and Tony Cruise are also in action.
