Boxing: Losing pro debut for city fighter

Intake cruiserweight Will Burkin made a credible but losing start to his professional boxing career in Wales.

Burkin comes from a Thai Boxing background and had no amateur experience prior to his meeting with Cardiff’s unbeaten Craig Kennedy at the Newport Centre.

The 24-year-old, trained by Sean Thickett, caused Kennedy problems in the second and third rounds but he ran out of steam and lost 60-55.

On the same bill, Thorne light-heavyweight Danny Mitchell lost his unbeaten record to Jermaine Asare. The former Commonwealth Games bronze medallist won 39-36 on his debut.
