Doncaster boxer beats Sheffield rival in classic match-up. And Kell Brook latest...

An explosive six-round contest tonight saw super featherweight Razaq Najib beaten on his own Sheffield turf by Doncaster's Tom Bell.

In a rattling contest between two unbeaten warriors at Sheffield City Hall, Bell just pipped the more local lad over six rounds.

The verdict, at the end of the absorbing, sometimes brutal encounter, upset some of Najib's followers.

And referee Mike Lyson's 58-57 verdict could so easily have been a draw.

But Najib can take comfort from the fact he was the most aggressive, if not accurate of the two.

And he will doubtless bounce back having learned from an experience that was a credit to both boxers on the Dennis Hobson four-fight card.

Flyweight Kyle Yousaf (Sheffield) chalked up his seventh straight win, this time over experienced Jose Aguilar (Nicaragua)

Super Bantamweight Ramzy Nassa (Sheffield) had too much for a stubborn Luke Fash (Hull)

Super Featherweight Mujahid Najib comfortably dispensed with Ryan Hanson in a battle of two Sheffielders.

Meanwhile, Kell Brook's promoter seems increasingly likely to be pinning his hopes on setting his man up for a duel with American WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas.

Eddie Hearn told Sky Sports; "Vargas was part of the Top Rank meetings, Tim Bradley was the other one.

"These guys realize how good Kell Brook is. We can either travel or pay a lot of money, which we're prepared to do as well, for them to come over," Hearn said.

"Vargas is a unification fight so it makes perfect sense. I want Kell to pick up another belt. [Danny] Garcia is not available and Vargas is a great option for us. If he wants to make money to box in the UK, we can do that and if he wants to fight in Las Vegas - well Kell is willing to travel as well. I think Vargas is a great fight for us.

"Bradley won't be available until later in the year. He's coming off a tough fight with Pacquiao. Peterson is still in the running. I like that fight as well. He has a win over Khan and close fight with Garcia."
