Fight Preview: I’ve been sparring with Kell, heavyweight Towers tells Rhodes - VIDEO

GIANT Sheffield heavyweight Richard Towers has had new welterweight sensation Kell Brook trying to knock his head off in training, he revealed to fighter pal Ryan Rhodes.

And that takes some doing, as 5ft 9ins Rhodes found out.

He ended up standing on a chair to interview 6ft 8ins man mountain Towers for The Star.

Towers, aged 32, who weighed in at 16st 12lbs ahead of his undercard fight against 15st 9lbs Harold Sconiers, 35, trains at the same Ingle gym as Brook and is after his 10th KO win.

That would send a warning to the likes of fellow heavyweight Brits Tyson Fury and David Price.

He revealed: “I’m not underestimating anybody. I’ve had some good sparring partners in the gym. I’ve even had Kell flying at me, trying to take my head off.”

Defending champion, Newport’s Buckland, scaled 9st 3lbs for his title defence against Middlesbrough’s Truscott on the Hatton Promotions bill

The challenger had to return to the scales at Sheffield’s Owlerton Stadium weigh-in before coming in right on the Super Featherweight limit.

Also on the undercard, Bradley Pryce was 11st 3 lbs for his 10 round middleweight fight with Patrick Mendy, 11st 7lbs.

Other weights were:

Middleweight: Adam Etches: 11st 5lbs v Stilian Kostov 10st 13lbs

Light Middleweight: Sergey Rabchenko 11st 3lbs v Ronny Gable 10st 4lbs

Super Featherweight: Scott Jenkins 9st  5lbs v Adrian Fusezi 9st 5lbs
