Unbeaten Sheffield prospect Tom McAssey is facing an uncertain future as his hand recovers from injury.
The 23-year-old light middleweight hasn’t boxed since outpointing Lithuanian Arvydas Trizno at Ponds Forge 12 months ago. McAssey, a Shirecliffe-based boxer who also works for a law firm, said: “It went in the second round, I had three fractured carpal bones and crushed the cartilage.I had it scanned and the bone is growing so it’s just a case of resting it for another five or six months. But if I do box again and it goes again I won’t be able to work for months.”
Sheffield’s Wayne Reed takes on Nottingham’s Simone Lucas for the British Masters Bronze light-middleweight title at the Metrodome, Barnsley tomorrow. Barnsley’s Ben Wager fights Grimsby’s Kevin Hooper at lightweight.
