Kell Brook raised the prospect of a world title super fight with Paulie Malignaggi - possibly in Sheffield in the Summer.

The Grenoside welterweight has a tune-up brawl this evening in Liverpool against Mexican Alvaro Robles.

The expectation had been that Brook would then go on and face IBF champion Shawn Porter.

But the IBF have allowed Porter to defend his title against Malignaggi on the condition that the winner must make his next defence against mandatory challenger Brook this summer. Both men must confirm in writing that whomever emerges as champion has the obligation to face Brook next.

Porter-Malignaggi must take place by April 19, with the winner required to face Brook 90 days thereafter. If Porter-Malignaggi fails to materialise by April 19, Porter’s next defence must be against the unbeaten Sheffielder.

Brook’s initial reaction was that he wanted to test himself against the deserving champion, whoever it is.

But he also said: “I want to get in with the best. But Paulie is the bigger name. I think if he was to win we would be able to get him over here so UK fans could come and watch.

Brook saw Robles at the weigh-in yesterday and declared him “a mean-looking character.” But the Ingle fighter should have too much power and experience against a boxer who has never campaigned outside Mexico.

Also on tonight’s card, Liverpool’s Tony Bellew makes his cruiserweight debut against Russia’s Valery Brudov in his first fight since losing his WBC light-heavyweight title challenge to Adonis Stevenson in Quebec in November.
