Cardiff Devils 6-2 Sheffield Steelers (final)

Sheffield Steelers crashed to a heavy defeat in South Wales last night.

Cardiff Devils built up a 5-1 lead at one point, before ending the game with a 6-2 victory.

Devils were two up after 16 minutes.

Swedish playmaker Fredrick Vestberg gave the visitors hope with a reply at 21;14.

But Cardiff rammed in three goals in five minutes to forge a big lead.

Colton Fretter, in his second match back from injury, made it 5-2 with a goal for Sheffield.

But the Welsh added a last one at 47;48 and coasted out the remaining time.

Gui Doucet scored twice for them, as did Joey Martin.

Steelers, who have released Mike Duco this week, were without suspended Zack Fitzgerald.

Cardiff move level on points with Elite League leaders Nottingham Panthers.

Panthers went down 5-3 to Edinburgh Capitals, who also scored three second-period goals to move into a 3-0 lead.

Nottingham reduced the arrears to one with two goals in 27 seconds, but they could not get back on level terms.
