Jack Pullar held off a strong challenge from South Yorkshire’s Graham Briggs and Russ Downing to retain the Simply Health Monsal Hill Climb last weekend.
Lancaster’s Pullar, the UK National Hill Climb champion reached the top of the famous climb in Derbyshire in a time of one minute 19.9 seconds to beat Doncaster’s Briggs (1:21.4) and Rotherham’s Downing (1:22.5) into second and third place respectively.
Sheffield’s Jessie Walker, aged 19, won the Ladies Cup.
Meanwhile, the second stage of next year’s Tour de France on Sunday July 6, which finishes in Sheffield, is expected to end at the Motorpoint Arena.
The final route will be announced in Paris on October 23 but Tour organisers are keen for the stage to finish in the Lower Don Valley to accommodate the team infrastructure and media village.
