Robert Winston hopes to be back in action next week after escaping serious injury in a fall at Doncaster on Friday.

The rider was taken to hospital complaining of back pain after being involved in a three-horse incident in the Nottingham Pallets Ltd Handicap.

Dark War, who was vying for the lead in the 16-runner race, came down after sustaining a leg injury around two furlongs from home bringing down Etienne Gerard who in turn hampered Bonfire Heart, who unseated Winston.

He was subsequently taken to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield but his agent Lee Newton reports him to have sustained no lasting damage.

He said: “He should be back on Wednesday.

“He’s just suffered some bruising, nothing serious, but he’s just a bit stiff and sore.

“He will have a bit of physio and hopefully be back next week.”
