Imports Mathieu Roy and Dustin Kohn were missing but that did not hold Sheffield Steelers back at they made an impressive step towards the Challenge Cup semi final tonight.

The side romped ahead in the Quarter Final first leg, in Tayside, scoring three unanswered goals, and rarely looked in trouble.

It was goalie Frank Doyle’s eighth shut out in a Steeler jersey.

Sheffield are huge favourites to go through now - the return fixture is scheduled next Wednesday at Sheffield Arena (face off 7.30pm.)

Roy has a lung problem, caused after being hit by a puck at Belfast Giants last weekend. He has tried to train but was still coughing up blood and so has been rested.

He will be assessed before Saturday’s game against Nottingham Panthers, but wants to play.

However, his health comes first and the club will listen to the doctor’s advice.

Kohn has a long-standing knee problem and was also sidelined this evening.

Troubled Dundee are currently bottom of the Elite League and they fell behind when Jeff Legue scored his first Steelers’ goal of the season, having returned to the club from Steeldogs over Christmas.

Colton Fretter and Michael Forney assisted his maiden effort.

Mark Thomas roamed forward from defence to slot home a second, with Forney again assisting and Legue too.

The second period provided no respite for Stars - Gord Baldwin made it 3-0 for Sheffield after being set up by Danny Bois.

Then it was down to Doyle to shore up at the back end to complete the victory unscathed.

*In last night’s Challenge Cup Quarter Final second leg Nottingham lost 4-6 at home to Fife Flyers but went through 11-8 on aggregate.
