SHEFFIELD United overcame Colchester with Barry Robson, with an early penalty, Kevin McDonald with a second half long range strike, and Dave Kitson late on all on target,

Danny Wilson will have been delighted to see his players make a perfect start against opponents fighting for survival at the other end of the table.

ROBSON, making his full debut following last month’s move to Bramall Lane, was the man who did the damage from the penalty spot when, having drawn a rash challenge from Thompson in the third minute, he dusted himself down to convert in emphatic fashion.

Just as pleasing for Wilson, though, was the sight of United manipulating the football with confidence and freedom.

United, with new signing Poleon named among their substitutes, continued to impress.

Poleon, aged 19, agreed his emergency loan move to South Yorkshire before the midweek victory over Bury but, in order to ensure eligibility should Wilson’s side qualify for the play-offs, delayed completing the paperwork until earlier today.

United introduced Poleon for the excellent Robson in the 58th minute.

The youngster slotted alongside Kitson, again receiving no protection from the officials, with Murphy edging wide.

The game was still far too delicately balanced for United’s liking though.

Wright came on for Massey in the 72nd minute but, 60 seconds later, United finally doubled their lead when McDONALD, seizing upon the loose ball in midfield, opened his account for the season with a low drive from long-range. Clifford was booked soon after play re-started for a poor tackle while Murphy continued to tease the full-backs.

There was to be no way back for the visitors as United recorded their third straight win and first on home soil since December.

De Girolamo came on for Flynn in added time and was involved in the move which saw KITSON tap home at the end.
